The public graffiti knitting project was part of the YES Arts Festival, which ran from September 9th to the 19th. While most of the Souter Stormers are over 60, Grace is by far the oldest member.
She was born in Lewisham, London in 1910 and worked as a telephone operator. Grace was widowed in 1955 and eventually moved to Scotland in 1978. She now lives in a nursing home in Melrose where she knits to keep herself entertained.
Grace crafted knitted balls that hung outside shop windows in the towns of Yarrow, Ettrick and Selkirk. “I liked seeing my work showing with everyone else and thought the town looked lovely,” she told The Press and Journal.
Her daughter, Daphne, 74, maintains Grace has “knitted and crocheted all through her life,” working on a variety of projects from shawls to baby clothes to hospital blankets. Check out the video above, you’ll find Grace is just as adorable as her knitted creations.
